About us

A home kitchen that got a little out of hand.

1200 Miles Kitchen is run out of a flat in Singapore by two people who could not find the food they grew up on — so they started cooking it, and then started cooking it for everyone else.

How it started

Sunday breakfast, and then a waiting list.

The first parathas were for us. A Sunday habit, brought over from a kitchen in North India where the dough was rested under a damp cloth and the tawa never really cooled down. Then a neighbour asked for a plate. Then a friend of theirs asked for six.

By the third month we were writing orders on the back of grocery receipts. By the sixth we had run out of counter space, bought a second tawa, and started calling it a business.

The name is a distance. It is roughly how far it is from the kitchen we grew up in to the one we cook in now — and nothing in the recipe got lost on the way.

We are deliberately still small. We are not trying to become a chain, or open a shopfront, or franchise the recipe. We would rather cook forty excellent parathas a day than four hundred average ones, and we would rather you recognise the people cooking them.

The set-up

What a home kitchen actually means here.

It means a smaller operation than a restaurant, and a tighter one. Here is exactly how it runs.

Two people, one kitchen

There is no production line. Every order is made by the same two hands that answer your messages.

Cooked the day it travels

We prep in the morning and cook to order. Nothing is frozen, reheated from stock, or held overnight.

Small batches on purpose

Daily quantities are capped. When we sell out, we sell out — it keeps the quality where we want it.

Packed to survive the trip

Pani puri travels in parts. Paneer travels cold. Parathas travel vented so they never go soggy.

Food safety

Cooked at home, handled properly.

In Singapore, home-based food businesses operate under Singapore Food Agency (SFA) guidelines rather than a food shop licence. That trusts the cook to hold the standard — so we hold it visibly.

  • Separate, dedicated preparation and storage space for all business cooking.
  • Chilled items held below 4°C and packed with ice sheets for delivery.
  • Ingredients sourced from licensed suppliers, with batch dates logged daily.
  • Cleaning and sanitising schedule run before and after every cooking session.

Because everything is prepared in a home kitchen, we cannot offer an allergen-free environment — dairy, gluten, nuts and mustard are all handled in the same space. Tell us about an allergy before you order and we will be straight with you about whether we can accommodate it.

Come hungry.

Message us on WhatsApp to order — including something off-menu for a gathering. Our GrabFood and Foodpanda listings are coming soon.
